Industry: Critical Energy Infrastructure & Power Generation

The Challenge: High-Standard Asset Protection for Critical Infrastructure

For major power generation infrastructure projects, asset reliability is paramount. Under the direction of Fuelco, Diesel Tank Testing Australia (DTTA) was tasked with the internal preservation of heavy-duty fuel storage assets prior to their final commissioning.

The project demanded a solution that met exceptionally high standards of asset protection, long-term reliability, and advanced corrosion prevention. Because these tanks hold vital energy reserves, mitigating internal rust and atmospheric corrosion during storage was a non-negotiable requirement.

The Scope of Work

The extensive project involved treating a combined internal volume of over 233,000 litres of carbon steel storage assets:

  • Three Bulk Storage Tanks: 73,685 litres each
  • Three Day Tanks: 4,210 litres each
  • Target Areas: All internal carbon steel surfaces, with specific focus on critical welds and seams

The Solution: GreenVCI GVL700 Penetrene Protectant

To achieve the stringent preservation goals, DTTA utilised GreenVCI GVL700 Penetrene Protectant, supplied by TUFWRAP.

Thorough Pre-Inspection

Before application, all bulk and day tanks underwent rigorous internal inspections. Confirmed to be in excellent condition, the clean carbon steel provided an ideal substrate to guarantee optimal adhesion and maximum performance of the VCI system.

Precision Application

The application was executed via air-assisted spray during confined space entry. This specialised method allowed the technical team to maintain a highly controlled, consistent coverage across all complex internal surfaces, including structural joints and seams. The team successfully achieved a precise coating thickness of approximately 0.14 mm across all assets, ensuring total internal encapsulation.

The Results: Seamless Application & Long-Term Preservation

The GreenVCI GVL700 system demonstrated exceptional application traits and protective performance throughout the project:

  • Flawless Finish: The product delivered smooth spray performance and robust surface wetting, resulting in an even distribution with zero runs or inconsistencies.
  • High Efficiency: Complete coverage across both large bulk tanks and smaller day tanks was achieved with minimal product waste, proving its commercial viability for varied tank footprints.
  • Robust Corrosion Barrier: Upon completion, the treated assets retained a consistent, well-adhered protective film. This film establishes a highly reliable corrosion prevention barrier, ensuring the assets remain entirely preserved during storage and leading up to commissioning.

Industry Endorsement

The success of the project highlights why industry leaders trust TUF-WRAP for critical infrastructure preservation. David Proud from Diesel Tank Testing Australia concluded:

“Diesel Tank Testing Australia confidently recommends GreenVCI GVL700 Penetrene Protectant for internal corrosion protection of fuel storage tanks where long-term asset preservation and consistent application performance are essential.”
